Muzzleloading Rifle Nipple Quandary

Posted on:7/3/2008 From: Rick Romanin

Hello Fellow Muzzleloaders:
It has come to my attention that there are Questions concerning the different nipples on Muzzle loading Rifles.

It is possible to thread a 6mm by .75 thread nipple into a gun that uses a ¼ by 28 thread nipple. Care must be taken when cleaning more than one rifle so that parts do not get mixed up.

These listed below are the most common nipples.

1st -- The American standard nipple is a ¼ by 28 threads per inch. This fits Most Thompson/Center Rifles along with Pedersoli, Austin Halleck and many Dixie Gun Works Rifles.
2nd -- The Rifles made in Italy for Lyman, Cabelas, Navy Arms use a 6mm by .75 pitch fine thread nipple.
3rd -- The CVA (Connecticut Valley Arms), Traditions use a 6mm by 1.0 pitch course thread nipple.

Keep your powder dry and safe shooting.
Rick
